What is the Objective of SLS?

To offer clients the opportunity to develop skills to live as independently as possible. Utilizing a flexible support system, programming is individualized and emphasizes choice-making and responsibility for their decisions. enabling people to live their preferred lifestyle.

Who is eligible?

Anyone who:

• Has a developmental disability
• Has the desire to live in his/her own home, the need for support in order to do so.
• Is at least 18 years of age.
• Is able to benefit from the services of SLS.
• Is eligible for Regional Center funding, or has the ability to pay privately for services.
  

What types of training and support does SLS provide?

The arrangement and level of support and training are tailored to meet the needs of the individual served the individual's lifestyle. Training and support include but are not limited to:

• Establishing an independent and safe home environment (selecting and moving into a home, locating and choosing suitable housemates, neighbors and in-home support providers.
• Building and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
• Participating in community life (safety awareness, accessing and making use of community resources, including voter registration, etc.).
• 24- hour emergency support
• Daily living activities, such as eating, bathing, etc.
• Mobility training
• Meal planning and preparation, including shopping and cooking.
• Routine household activties (cleaning house, making beds, etc.).
• Non-medical needs which are essentail to health, safety, and well-being.
• Care of animal specifically trained to assist the individual.
